What is Malaria?
Malaria is a life threatening infectious disease caused by the Plasmodium parasite and is transmitted to people through bites of infected mosquitoes.
- There are four different types of malaria causing parasites in Africa (p.falciparum, p.ovale, p.malariae, p.vivax)
- Plasmodium falciparum leads to the most severe disease (Cerebral malaria) is and is responsible for many malaria deaths worldwide.
